Review:
Self-help without the gyan (preaching)! That is what piqued my interest in From Stressed to Sorted when it was offered to me for review by Blogchatter. Most of than not, self-help books tend to get overwhelming with the jargon and the statistics. And in some cases, the preaching. Although the book is targeted at millennials (that I am not, missed the ‘cut-off’ by over half a decade), I was keen to pick it up.
We have all been there. There have been moments we have hoped karma strike someone who wronged us. Moments when we are all raring to go and a bitchy comment bursts our bubble. Or perhaps celebrating a major milestone/success and a friend’s call ranting is a downer. Why do we allow others the “key” to our happiness? Why do we expect to fail even before we begin? The book talks of this and much more.
Do you let them be a lesson for where not to tread again, allow yourself to overcome the pain, and move on? Or do you recall those times over and over and let them define the person you become?
The writing is conversational and simplistic. Much like discussing an issue with a friend or an agony aunt. The book is divided into eleven chapters. It is an interesting blend of relatable fiction, analysis, practical exercises, and handmade doodles (that I loved). The structure of the book is similar to When The Soul Heals by Pulkit Sharma but the approach is entirely different.
The book does get repetitive at times. Some of the discussions and analysis gets duplicated although they deal with different topics.
This is a good self-help book for beginners. I would recommend this book if you are keen to pick a self -help book but are not quite sure where to start. You can also check out the author’s blog at Soul Speak with Sonam.
